Paid Market Research for Developers

Just passing this info on, I don't know anthing about it.  If you have more info, please post a comment here...

Pipestone is a start up software company based on Seattle. We’re doing some market research for a new technology targeted at web developers. We’re currently looking for experienced PHP developers who will take a look at a prototype product and provide us with some feedback. We will pay your current hourly rate. We will demo the prototype product via the web and phone. We’ll ask you some questions about your needs; our product; and the business model. What we want is your candid feedback. You can think of it as a focus group of sorts. It should take approximately two hours.

Here is some background information about myself, my partner and the product we’re building – so you know what this is all about. I was part of the exec team that sold Aldus to Adobe. I had a successful start up company by the name of Netpodium, a web conferencing company I sold in 1999 to Akamai. I’ve been an angel investor and consultant to Paul Allen, Visio and other prominent Seattle based companies. My partner, Pat Ferrel, was a colleague of mine at Aldus, where he was a senior engineer on the PageMaker team. He had a company in the mid 90s which he sold to Microsoft. At Microsoft Pat managed the MSN tools team. One of his products forms the basis of what you know as Visual Studio. We formed Pipestone at the beginning of this year and are funded by Voyager Capital.

We’re developing a new open source application platform built in PHP and targeted at web developers. The product consist of PHP Eclipse and a mix of home grown and community developed open source applications. The solution is designed to greatly simplify the creation of dynamic data driven websites.

So, if you are interested in participating in this consulting project, please contact John O’Halloran at johalloran@pipestonegroup.com. And, if you know of other PHP developers who might be interested in this, please pass this message along to them. I hope you can take some time to work with us.

We’re not trying to sell you anything. We want your feedback on a concept. I think you’ll find it interesting. Oh, and we’ll provide with a free license to our software when it ships if you like it.

Thank you.
